PIANO LESSONS

OVERVIEW

Your child will experience lots of encouragement during their 30 minutes with Ms. Cheryl at the piano. I will “plug in” to your child’s personality and create lessons that enable them to progress as fast as possible for their level of ability and maturity. After 30 minutes with me, they will move to the computer lab or work with the Ipad Pro for theory lessons which reinforce what we did in their lesson.

Students are never sent home and told to “just practice”. An assignment sheet is given at the end of each lesson which tells them exactly what to practice and how many repetitions to play each song or exercise each day. This structured assignment allows them to establish a solid foundation.

If your child is ill or cannot come due to bad weather, a make-up lesson is provided which parents appreciate. You no longer must  come twice in a week if you are owed a make-up lesson. A short video lesson is emailed to you, along with the music to print out at home!  This courtesy is unique to the Ivory League Piano Studio.

WHAT DOES YOUR MONTHLY TUITION PROVIDE?

  • 45 minute lesson. 30 minutes at the piano with Ms. Cheryl and 15 minutes on the computer or iPad Pro for music theory.  If student is too young to do the theory lab, the parent must be present to assist.

  • Yamaha Clavinova provides accompaniments for students. This feature adds variety and fun to a lesson for students who are ready for the challenge. The tempos can be slowed down to accommodate the speed the student finds manageable.

  • Technology theory lab provides the best online courses for all ages. The Alfred Essentials of Music Theory provides a solid foundation from beginner through intermediate level.  There are 3 Ipad Pro’s in the studio and the very latest and best teaching apps are used to reinforce basic concepts and provide an interesting and motivating experience for students.

  • Weekly Reward Table. This table has a new theme every 2 weeks. It is earned by completing the weekly assignment. All major holidays are highlighted along with other themes: Back to school, sports, Happy or smiley faces, cats and dogs, wild animals, keychains, stickers, dinosaurs, butterflies, etc!

  • Sight Reading Library has over 200 books students may take home to build sight reading skills. This skill is often not developed because it requires lots of reading at levels lower than the challenge work a student is working on in their weekly assignment. These books provide that opportunity.

  • Annual spring recital and awards ceremony. Students receive a trophy for their level of achievement. The recital is optional, but most students enjoy participating.

  • Make up lessons are available for bad weather or illness. They are not available for other schedule conflicts. The make up lesson will provide a short video lesson with music emailed for you to print out at home.

  • Do not bring your child to class if they have missed school due to illness or if they are coughing and sneezing. Students will be sent home if they come to class with a virus or cold that is contagious. The piano keyboard and your teacher are in very close proximity and many students will miss their class if your teacher is ill.

  • Parents and students are required to select a 4 or 5 day practice schedule. The reward table is earned when a student completes the weekly assignment. It is not awarded if a day is missed.
